CATHEDRAL Park Square filled with the sound of boards slamming and wheels grinding on the 21^st of March, as the best of Brisbane’s skate culture descended to showcase some seriously sick skills.  

I was lucky enough to be invited by friends of a friend to the skate jam organised by Parliament Skate Shop and Dogshop Skateboards. The vibe was relaxed, and hype was very much present as I was lucky enough to capture some stills of the best Brisbane has to offer.  

Organisers were observed giving out prizes to both the best tricks and to up-and-comers able to perform whatever skill was requested. Who got what was often determined by the volume of cheers and approving board slams.  

Rails were set up, and benches were kick-flipped over with the kind of relaxed enthusiasm only Brisbane’s skate culture can offer. That culture was incredibly supportive, not only of the younger skaters proving themselves, but of creatives such as myself; the only ask was to be tagged in any content produced.  

So, if anybody tells you, “There’s nothing cool going on in Brisbane,” show them these images and ask them if they can hit a Tre flip. Because if not, maybe it’s time to lace up, get rolling and come check out this space. 

Probably the best street event I’ve been to in a long time. The kids are alright. Skate culture is alive and well in Brissie.
