Griffitti was first founded in 1975 as Griffith University commenced teaching. The first newspaper edition known as ‘The Gryphon’ and then later the second edition adopting ‘Griffitti’.

It ran, as Griffitti, until 1993, rebranded into ‘Gravity’ magazine until 2003, where it continued until 2003 before disbanding.

Griffitti’s history is messy – student upset, scandals and eventual disbandment. The new team are looking to acknowledge the flaws in the past and pursue printing student based content in a digital age.

In 2025 Griffith Journal Club President, Emma Standen, heard about this forgotten history, and published the first edition of Griffitti in over 20 years.

ZOMBIE RESURRECTION EDITION

In 2025, Emma, knowing that there was money left in the Griffith Uni SRC, pitched for there to be a resurgence of Griffitti in 2026, with an editorial team of three students.
